The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, is one of the world’s best-known choral groups. Founded in the 15th century, it ranks among the oldest of its kind, and, while originally created for singing the daily services in the college chapel, now enjoys an international tour schedule that has seen it perform all over Europe and beyond. Every Christmas Eve, millions of people tune in to watch the choir’s A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s – a service which has been continuously broadcast since 1928.

Recorded in 1994, this reissue joins the group’s already extensive discography of Christmas music – recordings that have enhanced its worldwide fame and reputation. The compilation mixes some of the best-loved traditionals, including Once in royal David’s city and O Come all ye faithful, with more recent repertoire – such as Rutter’s rousing What Sweeter Music and Judith Weir’s striking Illuminare, Jerusalem (specially commissioned by the choir for its 1985 annual service). Also featured are traditional German, French, Dutch and Polish carols (including two settings of Dulce Jubilo) – works which, together with Pärt’s enchanting Bogoróditse Dyévo, contribute to a wonderfully eclectic disc that provides over an hour of festive cheer.

    Roy Lamberton says:

I love the arrangement of "Once in David's Royal City" – it has influenced several pieces of music that I've composed and arranged. The solo voice at the begining is angelic….

    James Richmond says:

What happened to this being on TV, Christmas Eve 2018?

    Andy Burton says:

Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day according to The Scriptures. We’ve all broken His Commandments and deserve an eternity burning in Hellfire. And yet He is faithful to forgive those who repent of their sins and put their trust in Him alone for our Salvation.

    nibbler3311 says:

Have been searching for hours to find "real christmas carols". So many versions but none are what i used to sing in church in the UK. Thank you. Merry christmas to all.

I`m an anarchist, but there`s absolutely no reason why I should n`t enjoy this music and all it`s beauty. Only two types of music, good and bad.

    Archet 65 says:

Im so sick of the BBC playing only secular Christmas songs these days .

    Laura Allison says:

The beauty and humility of Christ Jesus. Glory be to God in the Highest! Christ is born this day! Son of God. Son of Mary. Son of Man. Amazing isn't it? God humbled Himself, took on flesh, born in a manger. Jesus did not consider equality with God as something to be grasped. Jesus possessed equality with God but was willing to give it up. He emptied Himself out till it was all gone. What did he empty himself of? His Divine Glory. His own independent will and authority. His use of omniscience and omnipotence. His favorable relationship with his Father, especially when we look at the Cross. Jesus gave up all his privilege as part of the Triune Godhead.

Look at this test of character: give a person privileges. A noble person will help others. A lesser person will elevate himself.

King Jesus became a slave of God and man. He took on the very characteristics of a slave: submission and service to God & man. He associated with sinful people. He became fully human and fully God. He was 100% real man and humbled Himself and became obedient to death–even death on a cross! Jesus became the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God to take away our sins, once for all time, for those that believe in Him. He rose again and sits at the right hand of the Father. Jesus is the LORD! The name above every name. He is fully restored and God exalted Him. God's wrath against our sins was poured into Jesus on the Cross. God accepted Jesus'perfect and righteous human life and perfect sin sacrifice on the Cross as final payment! He became the source of eternal salvation to all who believingly obey him. Jesus Christ is our High Priest. Each of us has access to him right now–this very instant. Ask, seek, knock and He is faithful to save you. After all, look at the love he poured out for each of us. It's never, ever too late. Ask him to save you and to show you how. Seek him with all your heart. Knock upon his door with prayer.

In the end, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess him as LORD. Praise the Lord! Alleluia!

    Master Warning says:

    Extraordinary

    chris ramm says:

whatever that was at 21 minutes and after, was unnecessary, aesthetic flows, ugliness has a jagged wavelength and discord, well done you broke up the flow and achieved ugliness. Shame on such a wonderful presentation otherwise.

    Nick Robinson says:

being a born and bred Cambridge boy but living overseas there is very little i miss about the UK. However this would be right up there…. amazing.

    Anne Ross says:

what a joy it is to listen to recordings that leave out Rudolph, the Little Drummer Boy and Frosty!

    Crystal says:

Who's listening in December 2018? Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    steve a says:
